Two years after the independence of Bangladesh through liberation war, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared "Fish will be the second foreign currency acquiring asset" in a public meeting in Comilla. Today, after the garment industry in Bangladesh, fisheries and fisheries produce the maximum foreign currency. Not only that, 60 percent of the fish of the rural population provided fish.
Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in the production of fish. This was the first time Bangladesh achieved self-sufficiency in fish production after independence. According to the data of the Department of Fisheries, the target of fish production was 40.50 million metric tons last year. Fish production is 41.34 million metric tons.
Bangladesh has stepped up one step ahead to the third position in fish production of natural resources. A report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization published on July 9, 2016, has brought the issue which is a matter of great pride for Bangladesh. Currently, China is the country of Bangladesh after India. It has also been said that Bangladesh is the fifth largest producer of fish in the world and fourth in the world by natural and farming fish. A total of 9 million tons of fish are produced from natural sources all over the world, where 10 million tons of production is produced in Bangladesh.
